Random observations

When I finally hauled myself out of bed this morning, (it was particularly cosy and warm) and entered the main room of our house, it felt cold and windy. Yes, windy.

See, with the 'hole' and cathedral ceilings, (that sounds grand doesn't it? like there is priceless artwork and other intricacies on a monstrously high ceiling..) we need a big fan, constantly going to keep the basement above the freezing point.

I checked the thermostat and it read a balmy 18*C, (please don't ask me to translate into Fahrenheit... I think it's about Brr*F...) which I guess is okay for the morning, as it is set to rise to 22*C, but with the fan it felt cold.

I switched off the fan to stop the wind, as I sometimes do. Occasionally I turn the fan off just because I feel sorry for it running all the time such as it does, (yes I have issues with personifying inanimate objects...).

Glancing up, I couldn't believe the amount of dust and debris encrusted on the fan's... what are they called... the fan's wings? I don't know, whatever, you get the point... I thought moss doesn't grow on a rolling stone? How could that much dust accumulate on the fan? I haven't cleaned it in about 6 months, and apparently someone is correct, we are obviously disgusting, dirt dwellers...

So clean it off right? Sure, easier said than done. Last time I had a swiffer duster thing, extended to the fullest, (about 4 feet...) I stood on my tippy toes, on top of the kitchen barstool. Sounds dangerous eh? Well also consider that the fan it half over the 'hole' which is about a 12 foot drop, not including the barstool and the tippy toes... Terrifying indeed!

It's one of those things that I don't want Billy to do either, as he can be a little reckless. I think I'll look around for a way I can make a 12 foot extension, and avoid leaning over the hole. You can call me Mrs. MacGyver...
