Lucky duck?

I ventured all the way over to my mom's pool (100 feet) just now to turn off the water, and to my surprise, there is a gorgeous male Mallard sitting quietly at the pool's edge.

A few times we had a male and a female Mallard stop by for a frolic in a low spot in our yard which could be quite pond like. Today, however, there is no female in site, and the pool, although filled with water, is no pond.

I hope the female is okay. God knows I don't need to lose more sleep about birds.

Of course if I want to see ducks, I can go all the way over to my brother's house (300 feet). As his latest thing is owning ducks...
